On the phone..
George: John, are you free this evening?
John: I don't think so but if you really want to talk about something important, I will make time for you.
George: It is okay John. I just need someone to talk to about my current problems. We can meet another day.
John: I could feel that you really need a company. Let us meet this evening bro. Can you propose a place?
George: You are very thoughtful bro. Thank you for your concerns. How about the cafe next to a lake where we we used to chat about life before when we were 19?
John: That would be great. How about 4 p.m.? Is that okay with you because this afternoon I have to fix something at home.
George: I don't mind as long as I can meet you. See you there at 4.
John: No problem bro.
At the cafe...
George: Thanks for coming bro.
John: That is what friends are for, right? How can I help you?
George: I actually want to further my study, but I am not sure if I can proceed with the plans due to some solid reasons.
John: Let us talk about the first reason first.
George: Financially, I am not prepared. In other words, I am scared that I might be not be able to find the balance between the budget that I have allocated for my study and the budget for my family.
John: Financial struggle can be a sensitive issue bro. The university might give you the proposed amount of budget that you have to prepare but sometimes there are extra things that you have to pay throughout the year. If you spend more than you have planned, financial struggle might lead to unnecessary stress which will negatively affect your motivation to continue your study.
George: If that is the case, I think I have to wait for another two or three years.
John: I believe you know better about your own financial status and I also believe that you know exactly when you should continue your study. How about the second reason?
George: I have no idea about the right topic that I should take to do my research proposal. There are so many things on my mind but I just don't how and where to start.
John: Do you still keep in touch with your ex-college-mates who might be able to help you with that?
George: Unfortunately I have lost all of my contacts.
John: Try Facebook then. I believe you could find some on Facebook.
George: That is a very good idea bro. You are a genius. I think I have found the best solutions. Thank you for listening.
John: No problem bro. No one is strong or wise forever. Everybody needs a second thought as long as we talk to the right one. Is there anything else that you want to say?
George: I think that is all for now. I feel better now. At least I could work on some options when I reach home later. I really appreciate your willingness to spend your precious time with me here bro. I really owe you.
John: I feel glad that I could share my thoughts with you but no matter how good my advice is, you must make the final decision. Do a self-reflection. You will eventually find the best answer. I wish you luck.
George: Thank you bro. I will keep that in my mind.
John: I have got to go now bro. Please keep in touch. Don't keep your worries to yourself.
George: I will bro. See you soon.
John: See you when I see you.
